Welcome to ACE Makes!
Three years ago I started a blog to develop my writing skills, partly out of interest but also to support my masters degree in literature. I realised how much I loved being part of the blogging community and this year have decided to start up a blog to teach people some of my favourite crafts and to share things that I make. In the spirit of my other blog, Amanda Writes, ACE Makes is dedicated to the creative side of my free time. With a baby on the way I’ve been making blankets and baby bits for our little prince, as well as stretching my skills by making bears and blankets for friends who are also expecting. I’ve just started making things for the home too, having just finished a lovely tea cosy that I am really proud of!
I am in love with the art of crochet and really believe that anyone can pick up the craft. As well as being a place to share crafty finds, my projects and my love of the craft, I’ll also be publishing some tutorials to help the beginner on their crochet journey. I am in no way the expert crocheter – so seasoned crocheters may think my techniques are a bit different to the way they were taught – I’d love to hear from you if you think I could perfect anything on this blog! I hope that some of you will be able to pick up the skills you need to get you on your way through using my blog. As time goes on, I’ll add to the list of tutorials with some special posts on projects, such as granny square blankets, teddies, pretty borders for blankets and motifs that you can use to decorate your creations, such as leaves, flowers and butterflies! There really are no restrictions with crochet. If you can imagine it, you can crochet it!
Look out for posts on my favourite crafty blogs and websites, as well as personal recommendations for crochet equipment, books and patterns.
If you see any crocheted things on this blog that you love, please get in touch and I would be happy to work with you on a commissioned piece. We can discuss budget, costs, materials and colour schemes for any item you see on this blog. Crochet doesn’t have to cost the earth – if you are on a tight budget, let me know what you can spend and I will work back from my labour costs, finding the best quality yarn for the best price for the piece you would like me to create. Also, if you have seen something in a book, or on the internet, that you would like a quote for, just send me a link to the pattern or let me know the book it appears in and I will do some research and get back to you with a quote. You can contact me through email, email@example.com
